about

Hi there. You are holding in your computer screen the culmination of many months of blood, sweat and liquor, that began as a comedy-lounge-jazz album, and ended up being so much more.

In our time, many people accused us of laziness and mediocrity. It’s terrible, they said. It’s sexist, they said. It sounds like you made this stuff up on the spot, they said. Many things they said, all hurtful.

But we knew we were on to something. If I’ve learned anything from my years working as a musician, psychic, and occasionally a politician — making it up is the cornerstone of good entertainment. And the more offensive, the better. In this modern age of loneliness and alienation, I’ve found that the best way to make friends with someone is to insult and offend them, and then (somehow) show them that deep down you really are a good person, with excellent taste.

I think that Big Foot and the Flesh accomplished what we set out to achieve: to make music that was suitably offensive, yet entirely listenable. We spent many nights in and out of the studio, often wasted out of our gourds, perfecting our craft by showing up late, breaking equipment, and perpetually pissing off the engineers. Nonetheless, we were showered with admiration and encouragement, because we paid them.

Sadly, I haven’t seen any of my fellow bandmates since recording of these songs commenced. Rod lives up north in the mountains, where he distills and consumes his own vodka and plays backgammon with old dementia patients at the local nursing home. Jeremy moved to Chicago, where he is researching the music of foreign lands and probably taking a lot of psychedelic drugs. And Sloan hasn’t stopped drumming since July — as in he’s literally been sitting at his drumset, constantly drumming, destroying his wrists for a purpose unknown to us. I don’t know where he is or if he knows what “you’re good enough” means.

I hope that by finally releasing these remastered works, I can bring the band back together, if not for a reunion tour, then at least to record another album.

Keep them coming, keep them strong.
Your friend,
Rad Paisley
